Crane Creek Falls

Acrylic on canvas, 20″ x 24″
Deep in the woods along a rocky footpath in El Portal, a stream flows into the Merced River. The water is surprisingly loud. Lugging a backpack and an easel over the smooth, slippery rocks is challenging and dangerous! On the hill above, a natural pool and a seasonal waterfall provides a shadowy enclave of white water, sun bleached rocks, and deep green depths. The rocks reflect a natural warm pink and orange hue. The shadows and wet areas cast blue. The falling water morphed into a geometric design mixing lime green with subtle shades of blue. In retrospect, the color scheme feels earthy and somehow “southwestern”.
