Proximity

Acrylic on gallery wrap canvas, 30″ x 40″
The leaves of this tree near Yosemite Falls became a round golden mass in the late morning light. The juxtaposition of the cave-like shadow behind the tree against the steep mountain face was fascinating. The surrounding pines and bushes created a wall of nearly solid dark green, creating an asymmetrical band which delineates the upper mountain and the lower pastel-colored meadow. Cobalt teal and phthalo blue/green and some dark purple in the shadows comprised the cliff face. The liberal use of pink magenta ties the whole thing together.
