Making Friends With the Monster Underneath my Bed

Making Friends With the Monster Underneath my Bed

Making Friends With the Monster Underneath my Bed, acrylic on board, framed; image size 8" x 10", Limited Edition Prints Available. I get a lot of ideas for making  art from song lyrics. I explored the ‘monster under bed’ theme a long time ago- ( I think it was a jean jacket)-  this painting was influenced by the Eminem/Rihanna song "The Monster". I remember these lyrics… I’m friends with the monster that’s under my bed, Get along with the voices inside of my head, You’re trying to save me, stop holding your breath, You think I’m crazy, You think I’m…

The Ascent

The Ascent

Acrylic on canvas, 10" x 30" – SOLD. Framed/Unframed, Limited Edition Prints Available The Ascent is about transformation and opportunity, the past, the future, and the infinite now. This is my first painting using trilobites, as I had been wanting to incorporate them into a design for some time. Nothing says antiquity like a trilobite. The fish with wings takes to the air, denoting change and freedom. The cup is a profound symbol of fertility and abundance, floating on the ocean where life begins. The sun is enigmatic, partially hidden. Not everything need be known. The pear contains the tree;…

Moon

Moon

Moon – 39" x 26", acrylic on gallery wrap canvas, painted on edges, Limited Edition Prints Available. This painting is an interpretation of Tarot card #18, The Moon. I designed it as an entry for the 2018 publication of WeMoon, calendar and datebook. The triple moon is an ancient Goddess symbol of transformation. Crows are messengers, guides, and symbols of wisdom, possessing their own enigmatic and secret purposes. A jagged path, a rough road, leads into the sharp, purple, red rimmed mountains. It is the daunting journey which must be undertaken.

Halo

Halo

Halo – 20" x 20", Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas – SOLD, Limited Edition Prints Available. This painting is based on sketches that I made in my notebooks, over and over so I wouldn’t forget; and took about 3 years to complete from the first time I drew it as a potential idea. I had in mind pictures of the Virgin Mary; and also, older paintings in which halos were depicted as large ornate flat disks framing the whole head. I purposely chose to use only fish and birds in an Escher-esque fashion in the area which would normally be…

Bees

Bees

Bees – 30" x 30", Acrylic on gallery wrap canvas, limited edition prints available. The Bees in this painting symbolize life, regeneration and the seasons and cycles of the earth. As pollinators, bees perform an essential service to both plants and animals; we are indebted to them. Their activity contributes significantly to our own existence. The premise of this painting is similar to my ‘Fish’ series, in which I have chosen to focus thematically on one species while incorporating other complementary symbolic elements. I am influenced by the work of Camille Rose Garcia, specifically her book ‘The Saddest Place on…

Red Deer

Red Deer

Red Deer, image size 20" x 30", mixed media on colored pastel paper, framed – SOLD – Limited Edition Prints Available. This is my first completed piece based on a deer theme, an idea I plan to expand upon, varying the level of abstraction in color and form. This picture was influenced by the work of Laurel Burch; her imagery inspired me as I experimented with my own colorful animal forms. It is done in colored pencil and oil pastel. I focused on using the brightest reds I had, putting them right next to vibrant greens, as well as the…
