Cow in the Hills

Acrylic on board, 21″ x 25″
While viewing the work of a Peruvian artist at a gallery in San Francisco, I was struck by the vivid colors depicting village folk scenes of rural houses, people dancing in the streets, domestic animals, rolling hills, and huge yellow suns. I decided to appropriate the fantastic color effects. During the drive back, the stark yellow hills along the highway near the windmills drew my attention. The expanse was dotted with black cattle in the distance. At one point there was nothing but the hills, and one lone, grazing cow, completely isolated. Beautiful! The cow is styled as an homage to painter, Franz Marc.
