Red Couch

Acrylic on Ampersand hardboard, 18″ x 24″
Discus fish are awesome! I found the contrast between the vertical lines of the trees and the flat round discus shapes to be visually energizing. This painting simmered for over a year before I finally started on it. I was striving to use a limited number of elements, juxtaposing ordinary images in unexpected ways; specifically, the fish floating in the forest and the luminescent, clean red of the couch. The atmosphere needed to be serene and peaceful yet vibrant with color. In 2012, this piece placed in the Group Art Contest and was published in the online Artist Portfolio Magazine.
