Eagle Peak from Patty's Pond

Acrylic on canvas, 30″ x 30″
Standing with my back to “Patty’s Pond” (a pool in the Merced River), I looked past the river bed, the moss-covered rocks, and the light and shadow of the veiled forest to the distant blue and orange hills. Eagle Peak, the small mountain framed in the distance when looking north from El Portal, is a rare subject in paintings and became the only location I revisited multiple times with this canvas, full gear, and easel. This composition is framed by deep greens and dark purples, highlighting the difference between the foreground and the brilliantly lit horizon.
