While reading a book on prehistoric art, I was inspired by Scandinavian drawings of boats and the phrase “sailing on a spiral sea”. Other than the idea of fish in a boat, the denizens of The Outing bear no resemblance to their cave wall counterparts, but for me they are intimately connected.
I love the idea of fish in a boat; and the alliterative ‘silver’ joined the spiral sea.
This is the first mixed-media drawing to which I added acrylic to colored pencil. In this particular case, the colored pencil on black paper wasn’t colorful enough. I found that semi-transparent layers of acrylic glazing added a new level of vibrancy.
