Pity Party; Table for Two

6″x9″, with one inch black frame, acrylic on board
This painting started as a drawing on pre-gessoed hardboard with a “No. 2” pencil and kneaded eraser. After outlining the image with permanent black marker, I put down a single transparent layer of color. This was followed by many successive layers of glazing, leading to thicker opaque areas. That expression either says ‘Those fish bones look pretty tasty right now’ or ‘The carcass is always better on the other side of the balloon.’ The party hat is always “the perfect touch.”
